Mac OS X 10.4 Panther cannot connect to file sharing

Hello

I have a mixed office network of Linux, Unix, Mac OS X 10.3 & 10.4 and Mickeysoft. I have a dedicated Debian server for ebox.

All users can connect across the network for file sharing, except for Mac users who are running 10.4.

Is this an ebox issue, or Apple?

This is an issue with the version of Samba (3.0.14a) that comes with Debian Sarge. The bug is fixed in 3.0.20. The bug is reported at  http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=309836 and was marked as fixed and closed by the Debian maintainer but this was not put back to sarge. A working version is in Debian's testing tree.

Sorry, forgot to note the workaround. In the Connect to Server dialog (Apple-K in Finder) put the share name in at the end of the address. E.g for user 'matt':  smb://ebox.lan/matt. If it the group share you are trying to connect to, prefix the group name with _ e.g. for group 'shared':  smb://ebox.lan/_shared.
