1.5 not installing on RAID 5 - missing/misnamed dmraid device-mapper, kpartx package

Reported by: glenm@… Owned by: jacalvo@…
Milestone: 2.0.X Component: installer
Severity: critical Keywords:
Cc:

Description

The installer for 1.5 is not correctly recognizing "fakeraid" on a Intel 5-series motherboard. While dmraid is present on the installer CD, the device-mapper for RAID 5 configurations does not show up in modprobe -l. The error from dmraid -a y is:

ERROR: device-mapper target type "raid45" is not in the kernel RAID set "isw_xxx_Volume0" was not activated

So dmraid is seeing the hardware and recognizing the presence of a RAID 5 disk, but it cannot activate it. The result is the partitioning function shows no /root or /swap and cannot install.

Thank you in advance for looking into this

I`m join. On Intel Server motherboard there are 2 varios raid Adaptec and Fastrac. And both occur an error while installing (dmraid scribed as reason). On Fastrac sata-drive is not displayed after search (with option RAID), but AdaptecRAID the sata-drive find and the installation going to 80%. But when SETUP trying install "grub" occur error. Manually and with recovery-image I can not to force GBUB write a record to MBA of RAID drive

Please see this Ubuntu forum thread - there is an additional package needed that is apparently not present even in the standard 10.04 distro -- called kpartx it may be causing the 10.04 installer to additionally not be able to format a "fakeraid" partition.

So there are now two problems working against the eBox installer:

1) it is missing the raid45 mapper (or it is improperly named raid456.ko in kernel/drivers) 2) it is missing kpartx

I would be interested in having someone from eBox weigh in on the possibility of a fix release of 1.5 for me to test?

Thanks!

kpartx is inclued in our installer. Reopen if this is still an issue with the Zentyal 2.0-2 installer.
