ddclient: Set daemon to true to start as daemon -> FAIL

Reported by: commi1993@… Owned by: jacalvo@…

Description

Hey,

everytime I start Zentyal-server I get the errormessage from ddclient, that I should set daemon to true in /etc/default/ddclient in order to start it as daemon. The ddclient start fails.

Bug?

Latest stable zentyal with all updates.

Do you have any DynDNS configuration? Do you have it enabled?

I think this is not a bug but the expected behavior. If you have DynDNS disabled then the run_daemon in /etc/default/ddclient is always set to false, if you enable it the ddclient start won't fail. I acknowledge the message could be annoying but that behavior is typical on these kind of daemons and that's more an Ubuntu issue than a Zentyal one.

Anyway, probably we will suggest ddclient instead of depending on it to avoid this for users that no are interested in using it.

  • Status changed from assigned to closed
  • Resolution set to invalid

We are not finally changing the depend to suggest, as it would be more difficult for users to know that the feature is available or they will need to enter console to install the package by hand. As I said, this is not a bug but a normal behavior of the ubuntu daemons, so I'm closing this.

Don't hesitate to open any other bug you find. Thanks for using Zentyal.
