Description
I have been using Zentyal 2.2, I have a big problem, when the dhcp lease time expire the server doesn't refresh the dhcp automatic, so I have to keep changing the ip range to get new ip addresses for the client computer, so I can be able to go and the internet. How can this bug be fix so the dhcp refresh the client ip so they get a new ip address and go on line.

I am using different 4 different type of operating system client: Windows vista business, Edubuntu 11.04, PCLinux 2011, and linux mint 11, and it's all the same problem. but as soon I change the ip range they all work fine, until lease up again and the I have to keep changing ip range. The should be be some fix to make the the dhcp work like windows server or like how a router server work. The server should release and renew ip automic. This server could use a ip flush feature in your new version. Present flush command is "/etc/rc.d/init.d/nscd restart", which is for most linux system

Hello corenet8,
I have tested again this and it was correctly renewing the leases. Now it has run by two hours without problem.
What options do you have set?. Have you changed the lease time parameters?
Another possibility is that you have a DHCP server in the same network, could you check this possibility?.
Regards,
Javier

I only have a router and it's not conflicting with the server. I set more lease time, but the problem is not with the lease time. The problem is after the lease time is up, the DHCP doesn't refresh or release and renew automatically. That is something I have to do manually by change ip range.

Hello Corenet8,
we have dhcp running on many installations so I am sure that is a problem or either your clients or your network. Since you have so many different clients, I am inclined towards your network. Sorry, but is out of the scope of this tickets, which is only Zentyal bugs.
A couple of suggestions:
- check that the MAC used in the renewal is the correct MAC of the DHCP server interface
- check that ARP resolves correctly the MAC (see http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=249461 for a example of this problem)
- you can also use tcpdump to check your network traffic, see http://debianclusters.org/index.php/Troubleshooting_DHCP

Javier
Hello Corenet8,
we have no more report like this one so I am inclined to think this a client problem. Which client software are you sung in the client computer?.

Javier
