One of the reason why people do not use WPAD is that they don't know how to implement it and it would require more click than transparent proxy.
It would be nice (and quite easy for what I understand, to add this capability in "HTTP proxy" interface. Selecting the "WPAD" checkbox would:

  • enable wpad.domain virtual server
  • populate basic wpad.dat (this supposes another section to enable editing of such file)
  • population option 252 in DHCP (which one? capability to select interface? here or at DHCP level?)
  • populate dns with wpad.domain, SRV and TXT records.
