How to support Windows 7 clients
For eBox 1.3 users
- You have to install samba 3.4.3 that is uploaded to the eBox 1.3 series repository:
- You have to remove the samba anti-virus as the version shipped is not compatible with samba 3.4 yet:
- apt-get remove samba-vscan If you don't have it installed this will fail but you can safely ignore it.
- Execute /etc/init.d/ebox samba restart on the eBox machine.
- On the Windows machine you have to login as Administrator and execute the attached ebox-win7.reg file.
- Restart the Windows machine.
- After that you should be able to join to the domain as usual.
- If you encounter any problem please let us know in the forum, IRC or mailing lists.
For eBox 1.2 users
- Upgrade to ebox-samba 1.2.4 (apt-get update && apt-get install ebox-samba)
- Do the same steps of the eBox 1.3 section, adding the repository and upgrading to samba 3.4.3 and installing samba-common-bin.
- Remove the deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/ebox/1.3/ubuntu hardy main line from /etc/apt/sources.list just after installing the new samba.
- apt-get update
- Warning: eBox 1.2 is stable, but samba 3.4.2 may not be. That's why it's only on our 1.3 repositories. Use it at your own risk. We recommend you to do some testing before using it in production.
- Important: Updating to this version of samba when having the antivirus enabled for samba will break your samba. Don't do it.
