How to support Windows 7 clients
For eBox >= 1.4 or Zentyal users
- On the Windows machine you have to login as Administrator and execute the attached ebox-win7.reg file.
- Restart the Windows machine.
- After that you should be able to join to the domain as usual.
For eBox 1.3 users
- You have to install samba 3.4.5 that is uploaded to the eBox 1.3 series repository:
- Add the following line to the /etc/apt/sources.list file: deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/ebox/1.3/ubuntu hardy main
- apt-get update && apt-get install samba samba-common-bin
- If you are using ebox-antivirus you also need to upgrade the samba-vscan package with apt-get install samba-vscan.
- Execute /etc/init.d/ebox samba restart on the eBox machine.
- On the Windows machine you have to login as Administrator and execute the attached ebox-win7.reg file.
- Restart the Windows machine.
- After that you should be able to join to the domain as usual.
- If you encounter any problem please let us know in the forum, IRC or mailing lists.
For eBox 1.2 users
- Upgrade to ebox-samba 1.2.4 (apt-get update && apt-get install ebox-samba)
- Do the same steps of the eBox 1.3 section, adding the repository and upgrading to samba 3.4.3 and installing samba-common-bin.
- Remove the deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/ebox/1.3/ubuntu hardy main line from /etc/apt/sources.list just after installing the new samba.
- apt-get update
- Warning: eBox 1.2 is stable, but samba 3.4.3 may not be. That's why it's only on our 1.3 repositories. Use it at your own risk. We recommend you to do some testing before using it in production.
- Important: If you have the antivirus enabled, remember also to install the samba-vscan package from the 1.3 repository. But be careful as it may not be stable enough for production.
