MINUTES - Zentyal Community Council Meeting 10-01-2012
1. Review Community Governance Rules
Governance Rules were reviewed, discussed and accepted once a phrase regarding how to change the rules was added.
It was decided that following Zentyal Community members can become Community Council members:
- Zentyal staff (when Zentyal staff reaches a high number, only the staff most involved in the Zentyal Community)
- Any Team Leader
- Any Local Team Leader
- Any other community member that requests membership or is proposed by Community Council members and is accepted by the Community Council.
The current Community Council members are listed below with their forum nicknames:
- nachico
- robb
- ichat
- christian
- hvilppola
- exekias
- J.A.Calvo
- jsalamero
- mburillo
- sixstone
The not-so-active members will be asked if they are still interested in participating in the Community Council. It is proposed that, as mentioned in the Code of Conduct, Community Council members should notify if they will not be able to attend / will be absent for a certain period of time.
It is proposed and accepted that the Community Council members should meet on regular basis, once in a month, on second Tuesday of every month.
2. Plan for the FOSDEM
It was proposed that FOSDEM would become Zentyal Community's second most important yearly meeting place after the Zentyal Summit.
This year Zentyal's stand request was dismissed and it is to be seen if a talk proposal will be accepted. It is decided that the Zentyal staff and community members attending FOSDEM 2012 will try to find the core FOSDEM organization team to lobby Zentyal for FOSDEM 2013 and in addition, Zentyal staff will talk with Canonical/Ubuntu? and LPI to see if they can support Zentyal's effort to find a spot in FOSDEM 2013.
It was pointed out that FOSDEM is developer's meeting and therefore, maybe not the most suitable conference for Zentyal Community. LOADAYS was proposed as a possible alternative.
It was proposed that the Zentyal Community members would meet during FOSDEM, specially to discuss the organization of the Teams.
As to the logistics, it was proposed that a common accommodation (apartment/house) will be reserved by Zentyal staff (10-13 people).
3. LoCo? Team structure and the Dutch prototype
Dutch LoCo? Team structure was reviewed and it was proposed that the Zentyal LoCo? Team structure would follow the Ubuntu LoCo? structure. Therefore, the Zentyal LoCo? Teams would consist of:
- Localization Team
- Forum Moderator Team
- Zentyal Ambassador
Dutch LoCo? Team deemed the following tools and infrastructure necessary to develop their activity:
- Official Zentyal-nl IRC channel (Freenode)
- Local Forum that would include a forum, wiki, events calendar and official announcements (SimpleMachines?)
It was decided that Exekias will set up a beta SimpleMachines? Forum for the Dutch LoCo? group and give administrator rights to ichat and Robb so that they can configure and add the applications they wish to use. It was noted that we should keep the unity with the existing infrastructure to ease the maintenance and use (i.e. unified usernames & passwords for English and local Forums).
It was proposed that a new LoCo? Team could be created if the following requirements were fulfilled:
- There is an existing and active sub-forum in the native language of the new LoCo? Team during the past 6 months
- There is a number of active members in the native language of the new LoCo? Team
- There is a group of active members interested in taking the responsibility of the LoCo? Team
4. Teams
Bug squad team that is currently being defined mainly by Josh was described.
It was pointed out that the current Community Documentation is not very well organized and it would be good to make a definition on Documentation Team's tasks and priorities. It was pointed out that Documentation Team should probably focus first on translating the existing official documentation as well as maintaining it updated, plus creating instructions on what and how to translate. It was agreed that we will start the organization with the Dutch Documentation Team once the Dutch LoCo? Forum is up and running.
Regarding the Desktop Team, Zentyal staff members were missed in the Desktop discussion in the Forum. It was agreed that a new Zentyal staff member (kernevil) who has started recently and who will be centered on Zentyal Desktop will reply to this thread shortly. Moreover, after Zentyal staff has held a meeting with Canonical regarding the Zentyal Desktop, the aim of this project will be more clear and there will be a better framework to take the necessary decisions.
5. New memberships
No new memberships for German & Russian loco were accepted. Ian was recommended by Robb and ichat as a new Community Council member and there were no objections: he will be sent an email proposing membership and what is expected from him
6. Other
Ichat proposed that the Zentyal Community Council would become an independent Zentyal Association/Organization/Foundation? with its own legal structure and that independent local Zentyal organizations could be created as well. These would be funded on donations by users and other means. It was agreed that this discussion would be started face-to-face in FOSDEM.
