MINUTES - Zentyal Community Council Meeting 14-02-2012

0. The minutes of previous ZCC meeting were approved

1. Zentyal Bug Hunter Squad

Instructions and tips for bug filtering were approved.

The name of the team was also approved with robb's modifications, as Bug Hunter Squad (or BHS).

Regarding team's governance, after acknowledging the need for a leader from the start, StuartIanNaylor? was suggested as the best candidate and approved with his consent. The leader of the team should have two main responsibilities:

1) represent the BHS at the council meetings
2) direct discussions at the private BHS forum

it was suggested for StuartIanNaylor? as an option to be the team leader initially, get other members to join the team and once there is some structure, hold community elections to get a community-elected leader.

halflife was suggested as the first non-ZCC member to be offered to join the BHS team. StuartIanNaylor? will do so.

The team will be able to use the private BHS forum for team's internal discussion, particularly concerning team's governance and keeping a direct contact with developers, as well as chat on the IRC channel. Bug reports should be always on trac, as this should be the central repository of bugs.

The creation of the team is scheduled to be announced by Tuesday 21 February, once everyone has had the chance to review the minutes (although they will be officially approved at the next ZCC meeting)

2. Zentyal Development Team

A discussion on the eventual interest of creating a Community Development Team was carried out. There is a development framework, development documentation, a repository, a wishlist, many development comments, ideas and suggestions hidden in the forum... We are just missing documenting the community development process and mentoring a few developers to kick-off.

There is also a big potential for non core modules, that do not need to be supported officially, but that could add a lot of value if we could only articulate a development community around them. It should be the sysadmins choice to use non zentyal core modules and it should be contribs choice to keep current in a release.

Everyone agrees that it makes sense and it is worth to invest some effort to try it. It is agreed that staff will prepare a proposal, in the same way as with BHS, and it will be reviewed at the next ZCC meeting.

3. Zentyal LoCo? teams

It was agreed that Dutch LoCo? team will be launched as a test, aiming to expand its model to other LoCo? teams if successful.

A deep discussion went on regarding the infrastructure technology required for the LoCo? team. It was agreed that it will have its own infrastructure hosted by zentyal, based on WP with news, wiki and forum. exekias will be in charge of setting it up and prepare a Zentyalish theme.

However, more discussion on technology for the LoCo? team will be going on during current week. Before the end of the week there needs to be a decision taken. That decision is out of the scope of the ZCC, so it can be taken without approval by ZCC.

The Dutch LoCo? team will be announced on week 10. All the infrastructure should be ready by then.

4. Zentyal documentation

No time to discuss it.

5. Zentyal Community Council

The IRC format for the ZCC meetings was discussed. Although many were in favour, no consensus was found regarding pros and cons vs voice meetings.

It was agreed that logs will be kept but they will not be published publicly until all members feel comfortable with IRC meetings. Logs of this meeting are attached.

Next ZCC meeting will be held on Tuesday 13th March (second Tuesday of the month).
